Basically they are seen as some of the most gross stuff around, but why do people particularly hate them when earthworms - often seen as cute, are off the hook (no pun intended).

I'm not so sure if it's the maggots, but more so they are usually associated with rot and decay/viscera, and this grosses people out. Personally, I love maggots and earthworms as well. Very Happy

I don't see anything wrong with maggots and earthworms. They have a place on this earth.

I appreciate maggots from a distance but they're pretty much the only animal I have a strong physical revulsion to. I don't like the way they move or how they search around with their little tapered heads... combine that with a soft, squishy creature that lives en masse in corpses (and sometimes living animals) and is usually covered with foul juices from whatever unholy substance it developed in, and you have something I don't want to touch.

Maggots are a part of the natural process of decay and have been around for a very long time. Sterile maggots are used in medical labs and other clinics etc. to help clean up very bad infected wounds, and it does work for a lot of people.
More than likely you could top off a few clean sterile maggots on the top of a famous big mac with no problems.

The thought of them is disturbing, so many want to be cremated. But nobody is alive to know what's going on, though.
