Looks like a nice forum as a new member or could be, not many people post anything, but I noticed this forum just recently started.

Several years ago I removed what was said to be some type of insect in amber. This was not easy and I would not advise anyone to try it because the chances of failure are huge. In the process the insect was damaged but I did remove a good portion of it.
I was wondering if you mr. T.C. or anyone could take a look at it. The photo file of this is 2.28mb in size, so way to large for the forum. I guess the image size can be reduced so anyone could view it that was interested.

Thanks T.C., that is right, been a guess for over 5 years so another one will not matter. The subject was very small no larger than a dog flea at best.
This picture was taken with a microscope so the magnification is up there. I can`t take anymore photo`s because I lost it shortly after that photo.

My lab does a lot of work with fossil insects, including insects in amber. Really cool stuff.

Your work sounds interesting pannak22, maybe if you have time you can show us a few examples of the insects in amber and the fossil insects from your lab work.
I agree cool stuff.

The best I can remember the magnification was somewhere x50-x100 but not above x100, not a flea, the visual size was the size of a small flea.
Could be an species of aquatic beetle.

I agree head and thorax with removal damage, I wish I had a better photo. I have never seen one like this from amber files. Since the head is missing would possibly be a good genus guess.
A lot of small but interesting invertebrate features can be over looked and this is one reason 50 percent of my work is done with microscopes.
Thanks for the ant identification.
