Keeping cicadas?

Hello, has anyone here had any experience raising cicadas or now someone who has? I am assuming they would significantly more difficult than most insects.? I also have found they are very difficult to get your hands on.

Now that would be an awesome insect to keep! They do have a long larval life but I think the regular ones arent that long. Obviously the periodical cicadas are underground for 17 years. I doubt anyone has ever kept them that long!
I find them fairly common in the late summer. I have also found larvae once. I am not sure how their mating is and what they eat. Let me know if you get more info on keeping them.

I will, if I find one at all I will be keeping it, and giving it a try.

Cicada females lay eggs in a host plant and the eggs incubate there for some time. The nymphs will emerge and promptly crawl or drop down to the soil, where they burrow underground and feed on plant roots until they're ready to emerge and molt to adulthood. I don't think they've ever been reared successfully because most species feed on tree roots as larvae. You'd have more luck with one of the grass root species, such as Cicadetta sp. or Neotibicen dorsatus. Not much is known about their host plants though, so you'd have to figure that out first.
