The start of my Isopod habitat

I am going to be setting up a habitat for my Isopods. This is going to made entirely out of home made supplies. I have no idea how well this will work, since it's something new I am trying.


Just a few of the items I will be using to make it.

Here is the finished product... not very pretty but it should work for my Isopods. The idea here is to get them to breed though so it doesn't matter how it looks.



Now time to introduce the Isopods.

Do you already have the Isopods? Going digging in the snow? lol And actually it doesn't look bad at all.

They are the same ones I sowed you last week.

Cool little habitat, if they breed though they'll quickly outgrow that container, I'd recommend a good old plastic shoebox for more permanent housing. Are you going to add substrate?

I'd worry about mold growth on that sponge, and I agree with Hisserdude, if you get a species breeding they won't last too long in there. You'll probably want to add substrate of some sort, even just a layer of leaves will work for them since their frass will eventually make a substrate all in itself.

It will be neat to see them running around in there though. You can keep track of the right-left-right progress as well.

I was thinking add some substrate or sand. I built something a little similar a while back. It worked well actually. However the sponge for hydration is something new I am trying.

Hot glue is always handy

I'd recommend a substrate of some sort, even if it is an edible type. I'll be curious to see how the sponge works out! At least it'll be easy to remove, so you won't have too much trouble with that.
