Cotinis nitida is a species of the southeastern United States so they may not be in your area. Just remind me of any extras mothman, later in the summer.

When removed from the soil the L2 and into the L3 stage the C nitida larvae will crawl around on its back, even though it has 6 tiny legs.

Mothman, we should have some up in our area as well, I've found C. nitida every summer in central Illinois.
